How to maintain your curls overnight

You had an amazing hair day, your frizz stayed away and your curl definition could not be beat. But as soon as you wake up in the morning you be looking like the weekend and there is NO way to fix your frizzy coils. Well, I’ve come to help you! One of the biggest questions for curly girls is: How do I make my curls last until tomorrow, and the next day (or maybe even longer) without washing your hair? When you’re asleep the outer layer of your curls (cuticles) get roughed up by the fibers in your pillowcase which makes your curls frizzy. I’ve found three techniques that will make you and your curls feel fresh the next day!

The pineapple

This technique is called pineapple: named for the way your head looks with this fluff on top. Flip your dry hair all the way over, and secure into a very high and loose ponytail. Use a scrunchie or fabric covered hair tie in order to avoid breaking or denting the hair. Stand back up, and separate the ponytail so that half is on each side of your head. With the curls on top of your head, they won’t rub against your pillow as much. In the morning, a quick spritz of water or curl refresher will do the trick!

Sleep on a satin pillowcase

In order to prevent friction on hair while sleeping, use a satin pillowcase. Hair will slide smoothly over it without creating frizz. You can use this method in combination with the pineapple.

Satin bonnet

If you don’t like the look or feeling of sleeping on a satin pillowcase, you can tie a satin scarf or wear a satin bonnet instead to protect your curls.

Now sleep tight and rock your gorgeous curly hair even tomorrow!
